Men of the Trees exhibition

2022 marks 100 years since International Tree Foundation was founded. Around the world, people are celebrating the impact of community led tree planting, as well as ITF’s founder, St Barbe Baker whose passion for trees and conservation created a global movement.

The Unity Museum in Seattle, Washington is joining in with our Centenary Celebrations by holding an exhibition about the life and work of St Barbe, who visited Seattle on a number of occasions.

“The Unity Museum is excited to join the centenary celebration of the first global conservationist Sir Richard St. Barbe Baker, the Man of Trees,” said Zabine Van Ness, the Executive Director of the Unity Museum.

“We have enjoyed giving in-person and virtual tours of our exhibit on the life of this inspiring founder of climate change through planting trees. Our University of Washington students are especially proud that he visited our city of Seattle several times from the 1930s until the 80s, three months before passing away.”

Later in the year, the Unity Museum is planning to host Paul Hanley, who wrote a biography on St Barbe. “We are presently planning a special centenary luncheon with Paul Hanley as keynote speaker, to be attended by many University of Washington students, members of Parks and Recreation and like-minded conservationists,” said Zabine Van Ness.

The Unity Museum is part of the University of Washington and celebrates unity, social justice, and global peace through its exhibitions.
