Just two trees left…
Just two trees. That’s all we found. Two trees.
10% of Kenya’s native trees face extinction. Critical species that could be lost forever. That’s why we’re prioritising endangered species in reforestation.
But in Kobujoi Forest we only found two mature East African greenheart trees from which we could collect seeds.
Your donation this Earth Day could help save Kenya’s native trees. And for one week only, your donation will be doubled!
Kobujoi Forest used to be full of trees that fed wildlife, protected water sources and supported local communities. “This forest was once covered with many indigenous trees that have now disappeared,” says John Kimei. “Our children never got a chance to see these trees.”
Your donation today can help change that.
Sustaining people and wildlife
Indigenous species are critical for both people and nature. “These trees were a source of traditional herbal medicine,” says John. “Especially for women and children. Indigenous trees also produced seeds and fruits that sustained birds and other animals. The trees also improved our environment by providing clean air and conserving water.”
A threatened trees nursery
But it’s not too late! We can restore threatened species to Kenya’s forests.
Your donation can help equip people to identify and monitor threatened species, collect their seeds, grow them in community tree nurseries, plant them in reforestation projects and protect them for the long term.
“Our wildlife was suffering from lack of food and rivers started disappearing,” says Jacinta Karoki, who collects threatened tree seeds. “The trees we are planting will benefit animals, including elephants, dik-diks, gazelles and monkeys. The trees provide fruit and seeds that elephants and monkeys depend on.”
Donate today
Your donation this Earth Day can help bring endangered species back from the brink. It can help restore habitats and food for wildlife. It can help families protect the natural resources they depend on. And it can help ensure children grow up knowing these trees not as stories from the past, but as part of a thriving future.
