Practical tips for organisations delivering nature-based activities with diverse communities
Time with trees reduces stress, instils feelings of calm, alleviates anxiety and creates a deeper sense of wellbeing.
But access to green spaces and the benefits of trees are not equally experienced.
That’s why ITF launched Healing in the Outdoors, a project which supports vulnerable people, including refugees, asylum seekers, people with disabilities and those affected by mental health challenges, to spend time in nature. Through nature-based activities and visits to beautiful green spaces the project connected people with the healing influence of nature.
In order to help others run similar projects, ITF has developed a guide of practical tips, designed for organisations delivering nature-based activities with diverse communities.

This guide brings together the key lessons we have learned and provides practical recommendations for organisations delivering nature-based activities with diverse communities.
This guide draws on International Tree Foundation’s learning from the Healing in the Outdoors project, which was generously supported by the Swire Charitable Trust and CAG Oxfordshire between 2023-26.
