2023: A year rooted in change!

The sun has now set on 2023 and we can’t help but feel grateful to our incredible supporters! Your love of trees helped communities to harness the power of trees to restore forests, create sustainable livelihoods and grow a greener, healthier planet for us all.

Supporting forests to flourish!

Thanks to the tree-mendous support of people like you, community groups like Wezesha CBO in Nakuru County, Kenya, planted well over 200,000 saplings to restore Dundori Forest.

“We thank God for enabling us to plant so many trees,” said Josephine Wangari, one of the incredible people we’re working on this project.

“These trees are one year old now, and they look very healthy. We’ve taken great care of them together with farmers. And we will continue to take care of them so that they continue to grow well.”

And on the foothills of Mount Kenya, people like Dorothy Naitore created tree nurseries and planted threatened trees to rehabilitate Lower Imenti Forest’s ecosystem.

“We planted southern silky oak, macadamia, hass avocado, grevillea robusta and meru oak because of the many benefits they bring,” said Dorothy.

But that’s not all, they also installed 500 eco-friendly cooking stoves in kitchens across the region to strengthen community livelihoods.

 Tiny hands, big impact

The ‘Tree Challenge’ initiative supported nearly 10,000 young people to plant their very own trees and nurture a love for nature that will blossom for years to come.

Led by our partner, Globe Gone Green, we worked with 40 primary and secondary schools across Gilgil, Kenya, to plant over 30,000 trees like acacia and olive.

The budding environmental stewards also planted fruit trees which will go a long way in supporting school feeding programmes once they mature.

Tackling the effects of climate change

Your support helped community groups in Western Uganda like Alpha Women Empowerment Initiative (AWEI) in Uganda to plant trees for flood mitigation, habitat restoration and sustainable livelihoods.

“The knowledge and skills on nursery beds, tree planting and management has enabled to participate in managing the tree seedlings being raised in our community nursery. I am feeling happy and now having hope of having a good environment and income in the near future,” said Mary Biira who thanks to you, is planting trees in her garden and training fellow community members to do the same.

Free garden trees for Oxfordshire’s residents

We celebrated National Tree Week by giving away 3,000 free native saplings to over 1,000 people across Oxfordshire through the Garden Tree Giveaway.

From mountain ash and rowan to guelder rose, silver birch and crab apples, the Garden Tree Giveaway provided Oxfordshire residents with a diverse range of native trees to plant and nurture.
