Wildwood Community Woodland,
Needham Market, Suffolk
Wildwood is a community project planting on land held in trust for the people of Needham and Creeting. The land was granted by a local resident who wanted to promote the idea of community planting. The site was established two years ago and alongside the Family Tree Scheme site are areas allocated to three local schools (2 primary and one middle school). The idea is to involve local school children in tree planting and each primary school now has a tree nursery where the children are growing acorns. As the children progress to middle school, they will plant out their trees at the Wildwood site.
The Dedication Book is kept at Needham Market public library, which is set back from the High Street next to the Community Centre and is signposted.
Directions:
Access to the site by car is very easy. There is a public car park and picnic area on the same side of the river, about ¼ mile away from the site. Visitors can walk along the river path, part of the Gripping Way, past the waterworks to the site, which is immediately to the north.
Getting there by train and/or bus is not so easy but not impossible. Visitors have to walk from the station or the High Street, where the bus stops across the river. This is a distance of about 1½ - 2 miles.
