The National Memorial Arboretum

in the National Forest

The initiative to create the National Memorial Arboretum was launched in 1994 with the first 22,000 trees being planted in 1997.  The 150 acre site was gifted by La Forge Aggregates and is sited on a reclaimed gravel quarry.  The project was part funded by the Millennium Commission.

The Arboretum was established as a tribute to past generations and as a gift in their memory for future generations to reflect upon and enjoy.  Plots include those planted for all the armed and merchant services, the police and fire service and a Millennium Avenue and numerous other plots and memorials.

The Arboretum is open 7 days a week and admission is free, although a donation towards the maintenance of the Arboretum is appreciated.

The Dedication Book is kept in the Visitor Centre.
