The Mersey Forest is the largest of all the Community Forests in England, covering over 409 sq miles of Merseyside and North Cheshire. Already, over 10 million trees have been planted and many other habitats created and restored.
Within The Mersey Forest, there are now two Family Tree Scheme dedication sites – one in the north of the Forest at Griffin Community Woodland, a new site which lies alongside the M62 in St Helens, and the other established in the south at Marbury Country Park, Northwich.
The Forest’s main dedication site is at Marbury Country Park, managed for the Forest by Cheshire Countryside Service which lies in the heart of Northwich Community Woodlands, an integral part of The Mersey Forest. Former industrial and agricultural land is gradually being transformed to create a rich and green environment stretching from Marbury to Northwich. There is also a local community group, the Friends of Anderton and Marbury (FOAM), who help the Rangers to look after the area.
Griffin Wood is a new community woodland owned and managed by Community Forests Northwest on behalf of The Mersey Forest; it will be enhanced over the next 10 years through further tree planting, orchard creation and wildflower meadows. We are currently establishing a new Friends group for this site. Parking is available at Clockface Country Park approx. 20 minutes walk away.
A Dedication Book is kept at Marbury Country Park and The Mersey Forest Offices.
