Cave Hill Country Park
In the Forest of Belfast
The Forest of Belfast project is increasing tree planting throughout Greater Belfast in all areas – in parks and playing fields, around school and factory grounds, alongside roads and river edges. Residents are also being encouraged to plant trees in their gardens.
The woods at Cave Hill are a well known landmark that can be seen from most areas of the city and land in the Country Park, close to Belfast Castle, has been dedicated for a Family Tree Scheme site. The Park includes large areas of Victorian Estate Woodlands, where trees are planted to bring new life to old woods and to create new woodlands. The development of the Family Tree Scheme site will give everyone the opportunity to help in this work.
Access to the Family Tree Scheme site will be during normal opening hours for the Country Park.
All trees will be planted during the winter planting season, from November to March. Special tree planting events will be organised each year to promote National Tree Week (at the end of November) and other special occasions. Family occasions such as weddings, the birth of a child, christenings, special birthdays and anniversaries will also be specially promoted.
