ERDDIG, WREXHAM
The Erddig Estate is situated 2 miles south of Wrexham (Grid Ref: 117:SJ326485). The National Trust acquired the property in 1973 and it includes a 17th century house, formal gardens and 514 hectares (1,250 acres) of parkland.
The park has a range of habitats including woodland, farmland, pasture, a lake and wetland. One site, Sontley Moor, is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The river Clywedog flows through the park and there are the interesting features of the Cup & Saucer waterfall and a Mott & Bailey site. Wats Dyke runs through part of the Estate.
The National Trust has embarked upon an extensive woodland management programme. This includes thinning out of woodland areas to improve the age range of tree species, planting new plantations, restoring orchards and ensuring older trees are accompanied by a younger tree of the same species that will replace it in the future.
The Dedication Book is held at Erddig General Office, Erddig, Wrexham, LL13 0YT. Open 9.00am – 5.00pm. Please telephone Joy Morris on 01978 355314 before visiting.
Planting is normally carried out during the winter planting season from November to March.
